Fighting Spirit Film Festival presents a free online seminar about the Cultural Impact of Martial Arts Films Across the World August 23

is proud to present its first online seminar, examining the cultural impact of martial arts films across the world, both in film and in society. Since the 1970s, martial arts films have spread across the globe – this seminar will look how their impact transcended film and moved into pop culture, and found unexpected popularity with minority communities in the West.

To help with this, Fighting Spirit Film Festival has assembled a panel of experts who will deep dive into the genre and discuss how these films spread globally, and also their own personal experiences.

The seminar will be chaired by by Fighting Spirit Film Festival Assistant Director Weng Yu and the panel members include: Marlon Palmer – Andrew Heskins – Josh Toussaint-Strauss – Meredith Lewis. The event is schediled for Sunday 23 August 2020, from 12:00 to 14.00 BTS. After the main discussion there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions to our panel.

This is a free event, but registration here is essential as the zoom link will be emailed to you a few hours before the event starts. For more details on Fighting Spirit Film Festival please visit the Official Website.

About the author

Adriana Rosati

On paper I am an Italian living in London, in reality I was born and bread in a popcorn bucket. I've loved cinema since I was a little child and I’ve always had a passion and interest for Asian (especially Japanese) pop culture, food and traditions, but on the cinema side, my big, first love is Hong Kong Cinema. Then - by a sort of osmosis - I have expanded my love and appreciation to the cinematography of other Asian countries. I like action, heroic bloodshed, wu-xia, Shaw Bros (even if it’s not my specialty), Anime, and also more auteur-ish movies. Anything that is good, really, but I am allergic to rom-com (unless it’s a HK rom-com, possibly featuring Andy Lau in his 20s)"
